Associated Groups

A number of community and social groups meet regularly at The British Club and hold status as ‘Associated Groups’.

Australians In Thailand

Well the title is a bit of a giveaway but it is the foremost social groups for Australian living or working in Thailand. It was established in 1996 and welcomes all those from Australia into their membership. Full details are on their website … www.geocities.com/australiansinthailand/

BAMBI

Bambi, or Babies & Mothers Bangkok International, is the premier group in Bangkok for those who have just had a baby and those with children under 5. The group meets regular at the Club once a month on a Thursday but has dozens of other functions around town – for full details see www.bambiweb.org Additionally to being a social group, the group provides support function for mothers and does significant charitable work.

British Chamber of Commerce Thailand

The oldest of all the foreign chambers of Commerce, BCCT was founded in 1946 and has over 600 member companies. The BCCT holds several meeting each month and full details are on their website (www.bccthai.com).

Bangkok Community Theatre

Bangkok’s oldest English language theatre group was founded in 1972 from two existing organisations started in the 1950''s. The group stage 3-4 plays each year at various venues, but usually include a Dinner-Theatre production and one children''s show at the Club every year. The group''s ''Club Night'' is held here once a month on a Thursday and all are welcome. More information can be obtained from www.bct-th.org.

Bangkok Music Society

The Bangkok Music Society supports the performance and appreciation of music in Thailand and its membership attracts music lovers of all nationalities. The range of musical styles is wide, from the classics to jazz and musicals. The BMS offer opportunities to attend or participate in regular in-house concerts and larger public performances. Local artists are encouraged, and the BMS sponsors annual scholarships for young talented Thai musicians.

The BMS Choir rehearses weekly throughout the season on Wednesday evenings, again with a wide variety of music including performances of major choral works, opera, sacred and secular music, Broadway hits, through to international folk songs. New members are always welcome in all voice parts.

British Women’s Group

What else can one say … a group of British women who meet virtually daily for something or another … bridge, mah-jong, cooking, needlework, golf, yoga etc etc, and give a very warm welcome to all on www.bwgbangkok.com. Started in 1969, the group has over 200 members all over Bangkok.

CCSPDT

The Committee for the Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand (CCSDPT) was established in 1975. Membership comprises all Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) providing humanitarian assistance to refugees from Burma and currently its members provide food, shelter, health and educational services to approximately 150,000 refugees along the Thailand Burma border. The meetings were originally held at the YMCA on Sathorn Road but moved to the British Club in 1983 when the YMCA was pulled down to build a new one. CCSPDT has therefore been meeting at the Club for 23 years. Contact is Jack Dunford at jack@tbbc.org.

Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU)

MORU began in 1979 as a research collaboration between the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University and the University of Oxford principally funded by the Wellcome Trust (UK). Its objectives are to conduct research in tropical diseases with the aim of supporting the identification and treatment of these diseases in Thailand and other countries. Masonic Lodge of St. John

This was the first non-BCB member group to be allowed to use the club when it met in the Suriwongse Room for the first time (post-war) on 7th July 1947. The Lodge has used the Club on a regular basis for many years. Contact is Chris Moore at lasanne@loxinfo.co.th

New Zealand Society

The New Zealand Society is a non-profit organization that supports New Zealand families living in Thailand. It has regular social events advertised on its site at www.nzsocietythai.org and even welcomes non-Kiwis!!

New Zealand-Thai Chamber of Commerce

We welcome NZTCC to the club and look forward to a growing relationship with them and hold many events each month to further trade interests between New Zealand and Thailand. Its website is www.nztcc.org.

Society of Professional Engineers in Thailand

An impressive group of professional engineers who meet in the club once a month for far ranging discussions from Bangkok’s Mass Transit System to Samut Prakarn’s sewers! SPET meetings are a lively event and open to all club members to attend. Guest speakers dominate the calendar and you can also be sure of a few beers afterward. Southerners Cricket Section

This Australia/New Zealand sports organisation hold regular cricket practice in the Club’s nets. See www.southerners-bangkok.com for details.

Thai Canadian Chamber of Commerce

TCCC (www.tccc.or.th) as well as being the pivot of all Canadian and Thai trade also nurtures Canadians-in-Thailand and the Canada Day Committee and is the centre point for focus of all Canadians who do business in Thailand. Founded in 1991, the TCCC welcomes all business with a Canadian connection into its membership.
