Pipe Band

The British Club Bangkok Pipe Band practices most Monday evenings in the club. Its tutor and Pipe Major is Pipe Major Keith R. Walker ex Pipe Major of 42nd Highlanders Pipe Band (Black Watch Regiment). Keith has recently settled in Bangkok and is employed as the Pipe Band tutor at Vajiravudh College in Bangkok.

Keith is assisted by Angus McKernan (piper ex Germiston Caledonian Society Pipe Band and Cape Town Highlanders Pipes & Drums, South Africa), Iain Mowatt (piper ex Transvaal Scottish Regiment South Africa, British Caledonian Airways Pipe Band UK and Hong Kong Pipe Band) and Arthit Prasartkul and Mongkol Leksongcharoen (who are both past pipers from Vajiravudh College and students of Keith).

At present the drum corps consists of British Club members Mark Dixon (learning the snare drum) and John Perry (learning the bass drum). John is also learning to play the bagpipes.

The Pipe Band shall soon be available to play in uniform at British Club functions, Loyal Society functions, Associated Group events, Embassy occasions and private functions etc.

The Pipe Band is also willing to teach the pipes and drums to any member, spouse or child (good age for children to start learning should not be less than ten years old) that is interested: just Email Angus McKernan (acting Chairman) for further details.
