The first Hundred Years saw a slow pace of change for a world which itself moved slowly – the next Hundred years will no doubt progress faster and further.
In 2005 the Club saw the election of a woman as the Club’s chairman – the first in 102 years – something the founders would never have envisaged in their just post Victorian world – and in 2007 we elected our first Australian chairman.
Also in 2006 a Club Development Master Plan was created and it was agreed that the first phase will see the redevelopment of the ground floor of the clubhouse interiors to enable space to be put to better use: early in 2007 the newly refitted Churchill Bar took over the room once occupied by Lords, and in late 2007 The Verandah took over the old Churchill Bar. In 2008 the Club plans to start on the refurbishment of the poolside area. In fact, if the whole plan is carried though, we will see a completely new British Club Bangkok ready for the twenty-second century … and beyond!
