Cricket

Well the cricket section has been very quiet recently, mainly due to the fact that the rainy season is certainly not conducive to cricket. However the new season is close to starting, and we are keen to see as many faces as possible playing cricket this year.

The British Club/Elite team will be competing in the local league again this year, hoping to go one better than runners up in the A division last season. Once again Zeeshan Khan will be leading the team, and he is confident of another strong showing. For anyone interested in playing cricket this year, please contact Zeeshan Khan or you can obtain an application form from the cricket section pigeon hole.

Training will commence in the first week of October, every Sunday morning from 10am, and we hope to see many new faces this year.

On another front, the cricket nets have been used regularly by the Cricket Association of Thailand. When the weather is fine they use the nets 4 times a week, to train the Thailand national squads. The nets at the British Club have been renovated and they are the best available training facility in Bangkok, so it is good to see the national squads taking advantage of this.

Junior cricket is growing strongly in Bangkok, and the new season will see even higher numbers this year. Registration will be in October, and we will commence training in November. This year we have had the pleasure of starting a business relationship with Bangkok Patana School, which will be the home of junior cricket in Thailand. The school has already put in a synthetic pitch, and a net square will be built soon. The junior coaching will run every Sunday from November through to May and will be conducted by 5 Asian Cricket Council qualified coaches. The season will commence will skills training and will develop through to junior league matches at the end of the season. If you have any children between the ages of 9 and 15, I would love to hear from you.

There are numerous cricket practices here at the club. At present, practices take place on Tuesdays from 6.00pm to 9.00pm, Saturdays from 9.30 am to Noon and Sundays from 3.00pm to 6.00pm. All practices take place on the back lawn, using the club’s brand new cricket nets.

The cricket nets are available for hire when not used by a team practice.

Take care and happy cricketing…
