Welcome to the Football Section of the British Club Bangkok and we sincerely hope that after reviewing the following, you will consider participating in at least some of our Section’s activities.
The British Club currently fields three competitive 11-a-side teams each operating at effectively one of 3 levels. The first team plays in the very competitive Farang (Chang) League where the younger, and shall we say more capable, players compete annually on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays from December onwards for the Farang Cup.
For those of us who enjoy competitive football, but at perhaps a slightly (though not always) more relaxing level, the club also enters a team in the in the Bangkok Casual League. Here, teams from Bangkok and Pattaya meet on Saturdays and Sundays between September and May at The Bangkok Patana School, Soi La Salle. The usual 3 points for a win one for a draw format is used here.
And then of course, for those of us who the thought of playing for England is but a distant memory, the club also runs a Veterans team. Targeted at the over 35’s, the club regularly organizes games with others of similar age and enters a team in the monthly Bangkok Veterans tournament, which is usually held on the first Sunday of each month at Harrow School, Don Muang. Though no less competitive, these afternoons also provide the opportunity of meeting old friends and having the odd beer or three.
Every Tuesday night throughout the year between 7.00pm and 9.00pm, we also run a flood lit training session on the artificial tennis courts at the Surawong end of The British Club grounds. Although a little fitness training takes place earlier in the season, the usual format comprises 5-a-side football, creating another ideal opportunity for newcomers to meet with some of our lads and to find out what is going on.
And…. if all of the above fails to provide you with sufficient opportunity of playing the game that we all so love, in addition to a number of annual tournaments in Bangkok, we participate in and are very well known at major regional tournaments throughout Asia. We also welcome tour groups from both inside and outside Thailand and do or best to ensure that an active social programme is pursued in Bangkok throughout the season.
Due to the support offered by the British Club, kits balls etc for all organized games are provided although we generally ask each player for THB 200 per game to support fees, referees etc. Training costs THB 100 per player per night help to cover the costs of lights, maintenance etc.
So you can see that there is opportunity for football players of all ages and skill levels that just want to enjoy soccer. We welcome all.
Finally, for those of you with youngsters of your own who would also like to participate, we can also arrange to put you in touch with a number of players who are also organizers of the extremely well run junior soccer leagues which operate here in Bangkok and we would be more than happy to do so.
In conclusion, we look forward to seeing you at any one of the events outlined above. However, if you do need further information, please feel free to contact us.
