SPORTS & LEISURE

Here at the Club, you can get just as physical as you like. If you’re in a mellow mood, you can sit back in the sports bar with a drink in hand, surfing the 25 sports channels on the twin 65″ and 55″ TVs, or play a little pool or carrom. For when you’re feeling a little more ambitious, you’re only moments away from the gym, the pool, tennis or squash courts; a game of hockey or indoor-rules cricket on the multi-purpose court or join a cricket practice session in the nets. There’s also a full calendar of sports training programs for you and for children available year-round, as well as the chance to recover from all that exertion with sports, therapeutic or relaxing massages.

Pools

25 metre Swimming Pool, dedicated lap lane for serious training or cooling dips and poolside lounging.

Children’s Swimming Pool: ideal for the noise and the splashing and for the safety of parental seating and supervision nearby.

Sports on Courts

Squash court (2 glass-backed courts under construction)
Multi-purpose court (for hockey, five-a-side football, indoor-rules cricket).
As well as cricket nets, snooker, pool and darts

Session can be booked via the fitness centre.

Members can also participate in ‘fitball’ training programmes, circuit and boxing sessions, and Sunday yoga classes. The Fitness Centre’s Khun Ruengrit Turiwong also offers personal swimming lessons for adult and child beginners.

Thai Massage Facilities

Traditional Thai body and foot massages, as well as sports massage, are provided in our air-conditioned Massage Room.

JUNIOR SPORTS AND TRAINING PROGRAMMES
CRICKET

Practice nets with two flood-lit lanes and multi-purpose court for 6-a-side rules floodlit matches.

Without playing fields of its own, The Club began playing inter-Club cricket in the 1960s. As cricket in Thailand grew, the club fielded two teams for a number of years in the 1980s and was league Champions on more than one occasion before interest faded. For the 2009/10 season, new beautiful floodlit practice nets were incorporated in the re-design of the Club Back Lawn and there has since been a resurgence of interest with an active fixtures list year-round including all formats of the game including 6 a-side ‘Fireball’ indoors-rules cricket at the Club, 6 and 8 a-side tournaments and beach cricket, as well as ‘proper’ 11 a-side cricket played over 10, 20, 25 or 30 overs.  The Club currently plays in the Bangkok Cricket League B Division and organizes at least 3 tours each year including one overseas. The team is becoming increasingly competitive and ambitious but the emphasis is very much on having fun, encouraging players of all ages and ability. The Club plays more cricket than any other team in Bangkok and has a lot more fun! Find out more http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/britishclubcricketbangkok/

FOOTBALL/SOCCER

Football is played every Tuesday throughout the year between 7.00pm and 9.00pm on our flood lit multi-purpose court on the back lawn of the British Club’s grounds. The usual format comprises 5-a-side football, creating an ideal opportunity for newcomers to meet with some of our Members and thus to find out what is going on.

The Club also runs 5-a-side friendly tournaments throughout the year on the multi-purpose court (similar to futsal). Feel free to drop by any or every Tuesday to join in – non-Members or guests will be charged THB 100. If you need further information, please contact Khun Amnat, our Sports Manager at: amnat@britishclubbangkok.org

SQUASH

The Squash Section is a popular one at the British Club comprising about 80 Members. If you are a keen squash player, then you will enjoy being part of the BCB Squash Section, regardless of your standard. There are Section Members of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, and with all the many competitions arranged throughout the year as well as the leagues, mix-ins, tours and social functions, the British Club Squash Section is one of the most social and active sections of the British Club Bangkok. There is an annual section fee of 400 baht and a monthly fee of 200 baht. These fees cover regular court bookings including mix-ins.

TENNIS

The Club has four hard courts available for bookings which can be made at the Fitness Centre. The cost for a court is 50 baht during daylight hours and 100 baht in the evenings and It seems we have a choice of 4 knockers at either THB 450 or 500 per person depending on experience, plus one coach at THB800. Currently there are just over 200 paid up Members of the Section who pay an annual charge of 500 baht. This charge entitles Members to join in the “mix-ins”, tournaments, the internal leagues and the Club teams. Contact Khun Amnat at the Fitness Centre to join up or email to: bcts.bangkok@gmail.com

GOLF

The British Club Golf Section (BCGS) uses the UK Congu handicap system. Every month the BCGS plays a Medal and a Stableford competition at courses around Bangkok. In addition there are six major competitions, which are held over two or three day weekends, usually in Hua Hin or near the Khao Yai National Park. We also play around four competitions a year against other societies; these are held around Bangkok. If you would like more information, please contact BCGS on bcgs.bangkok@gmail.com

BALL HOCKEY

Ball hockey is modeled on North American ice hockey rather than field or grass hockey, and is a mainstay in Canada, popular in certain parts of the United States and Europe and is growing in Asia. There are now leagues in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia to name a few. The Ball Hockey Section at the Club invites all newcomers to the sport as well as any seasoned veterans who haven’t been out in a while. A game is played most Saturdays, barring rain, on the back lawn court of the British Club starting at 3.45pm, and all you need is a good pair of running shoes, shorts and t-shirt – sticks and other equipment for goalies are available at the Club. If you are interested in joining, please send an email to bkkballhockey@gmail.com so that you can be added to the weekly ball hockey communiqué.

JUNIOR SPORTS AND TRAINING PROGRAMMES

Throughout the year the Club runs many sports activities for children, from tennis, squash, football cricket and swimming through to adventure-based sports such as rock climbing, bouldering, and martial arts. The British Club Sports Camps (five days of mixed sport and fun) are held during every school holiday and are an excellent way for kids to make new friends and try a lot of different sports. Most sports have their own Junior training or coaching service.  For more information, contact Sports Manager Khun Amnat Saklebpradu by email on: amnat@britishclubbangkok.org
