The Silom Wing opened in October 2018. This was a brand new family and sporting facility, the first Phase of the redevelopment of the old 1960s poolside buildings. Work began on Phase 2 in January 2021 which will completes the project with modern exercise and changing facilities and airy eating and drinking venues
Silom Wing: In 2016, Architects Chapman Taylor won a conceptual design competition for redeveloping the Poolside in which all of the old buildings built during the 1960s, 70s and 80s would be replaced. Members approved the first phase named the Silom Wing in January 2017 and this was opened in October 2018.
The Silom Wing features a children’s swimming pool, a large shaded playground with trampoline and an outdoor family seating and eating area. It also includes the Kid’s Stop air-conditioned family activity room with soft play area and two international standard glass backed squash courts with a very pleasant viewing area, conveniently located next to the outside bar for post-match refreshments.
In anticipationof Phase 2 (described below), temporary Fitness Centres 1& 2 are located on the ground and first floors of the Silom Wing together with temporary changing rooms also on the first floor. These spaces will be available for alterative uses once Phase 2 is complete
Phase 2 of the Poolside Redevelopment was approved by the Members at an EGM in January 2019 and preparatory work began on the temporary changing rooms and fitness centres, plus an awning over the pool deck to provide additional shaded seating during construction. Demolition was due to start in March but had to be put on hold due to the Covid-19 emergency. Demolition commenced 6th January 2021 with completion due around the end of the year.
Whilst the Silom Wing is very much aimed at young families, Phase 2 will provide enhanced facilities for all those engaged in Activities, replacing all of the remaining old buildings from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It will provide a spacious, state of the art fitness centre, attractive massage rooms, fashionable changing rooms, a purpose-built new kitchen and an airy, modern sports bar over the open-air Surawongse Sala, which can be open or air-conditioned as required.
